The Community Association Law Committee will engage in legislative and public policy initiatives affecting community associations in South Carolina and will also assist in developing continuing legal education programs that will address common issues involved in the practice of community association law.

Committee Goals​, FY2023-2024

Sean A. O’Connor, Chair

  • Host a continuing legal education program in November.
  • Identify ways to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion with the committee such as approaching the Women Lawyers Association and Black Lawyers Association regarding interest in serving on the committee. 
  • Engage in legislative and public policy initiatives affecting community associations in South Carolina. 
  • Coordinate continuing legal education programs that will address common issues involved in the practice of community association law such as collection and foreclosures, injunction laws, legislative updates, etc. 
  • Host lunch and learn programs.
  • Educate members of the Bar regarding current trends and new laws impacting community association law.
  • Provide education to members of the public on basic information regarding community association law to enable them to be more effective advocates and protect themselves.
  • Encourage members to monitor, study, evaluate, and express comments on legislation to the Bar.
  • Produce two pamphlets that would address general concerns related to community association laws. One brochure would be directed towards boards and various other homeowner associations, and the other would be available for property owners.
