Charleston Mixer
Attached are pictures from the In-House Counsel Committee mixer that was held on October 18th, at the Moxy Charleston Downtown. Attendees enjoyed beverages and lite bites. Fellowship and fun were had by all. The Committee would like to thank Aris Ferguson for coordinating the event.


Overview
The In-House Counsel Committee of the South Carolina Bar connects In-House Counsel from across the State of South Carolina, and from various industries through exclusive events, a dedicated listserv, educational, networking and community service opportunities and other programs designed specifically for In-House Counsel.  

Membership Eligibility
Membership to the In-House Counsel Committee is open to In-House Counsel (defined below) who:

  • Are admitted to practice law in the State of South Carolina,
  • Are members in good standing of the South Carolina Bar, and 
  • Provide legal services or serve in corporate, compliance, regulatory, or operations positions solely for the entity that employs them. 

“In-House Counsel” includes full and part-time lawyers solely employed by governmental agencies, public, private, large and small organizations, non-profits, and educational institutions. 

The following are ineligible for membership:

  • Individuals employed at law firms.
  • Individuals who hold themselves out to the public for the practice of law.
  • Individuals whose responsibility may include selling or providing services to individuals or organizations who are not their employer. This includes, but is not limited to, individuals who work for companies that provide legal services, such as headhunters, law firms, and temporary agencies.
  • Individuals whose responsibilities include sales, marketing, and business development in the legal market.

Committee Goals, FY2023-2024

Michelle P. Clayton, Chair

  1. Host a two-hour CLE and a reception for members. 
  2. Identify ways to incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Committee. 
  3. Explore and host statewide networking opportunities.
  4. Conduct educational opportunities that focus on issues of concerns to in-house practitioners. Approach organizations such as the SC Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) regarding possible partnership.
